An Electrochemical Study of Ammonium Dihydrogen Phosphate on Mg and Mg Alloy Electrodes

Abstract In this work, the electrochemistry of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate in aqueous solution on Mg and AZ31 alloy (Al 3 wt%, Zn 1 balanced Mg) electrodes was studied using electrochemical characterization similar to electro-agglomeration physical shed some light mechanism struvite formation as precipitation waste. It found that exhibited higher corrosion current densities ( j corr ), thus dissolution rates v ) when compared with pure Mg. This finding confirmed by ion chromatography (IC) analysis. Results also showed a phosphorus removal efficiency P Rem 16.8% together ~53 mL H 2 production for 17.2% ~61 alloy. The precipitates formed two electrode materials were physically characterized SEM, XRD, XPS, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, which indicated (magnesium hexahydrate-MgNH 4 PO *6H O). (i) thickness films influenced applied scan rates, had significant impact morphology, (ii) hydrogen bubble precipitates, whereby film thicknesses negatively impacted. Graphical abstract
